1923:
- Another undated base plate issued. 700,000 prs. were made initially.
- "TEXAS" was written down both ends of the plate. A lone star
separated the numbers, a feature which continued until 1944 (except
1936).
- No validation seal was needed for 1923.
- The earliest known sample
plate is of this design.
- Later, 300,000 more plates of the same design were made, except
the plate is noticably shorter. (plate #s 700-001 to 999-999).
Sometime between 933718 & 936696 the star became larger.
- Plate color: white on black.

1924:
- A seal was used to validate plates for 1924.
- Seal color: white on red

1925:
- First yearly license plate.
- "TEXAS" down left end, "1925" down right.
- Commercial
(COM) plates introduced.
- Trailer
(T prefix) plates introduced. DOT literature suggests
these were also used for Tractors until 1928.
- Passenger plate color: white on maroon.

1926:
- "TEX-26" down right end.
- Motor
Bus plates introduced (MB prefix), 4,158 issued.
- Passenger plate color: black on grey.

- "1927" down left end, "TEXAS" down right.
- First verified use of serial letter (A).
- Passenger plate color: white on green.

1928:
- Plates bore the legend, "front" or "rear" until 1930.
- "FRONT" or "REAR" down left side, "TEX-28" down right.
- 7-digit plates issued for the first time. Serial letters seem
not to be used again until 1931.
- For this year only, Commercial
plates issued in four separate series, based on vehicle
weight.
- Trailer
plates also have 8 different weight classes.
- Passenger plate color: white on brown.
